Another end to end

My first blog was 'a blog for lejog' - Lands End to John O'Groats, the UK's iconic 'end to end' ride. This blog will be about another iconic end to end, from the northern-most point of New Zealand's North Island, Cape Reinga, the southern-most point of its South Island, Bluff - the Tour Aotearoa.

The Tour Aotearoa is about 3000km long with about 30,000m of ascent, and 30 days to do it in - well you can take as long as you like, but 30 days seems to sit well with 3,000km and 30,000m. About 40% of it is off road, and New Zealand is hilly - which is to say that compared to this, Lejog sounds easy, and my legs have aged a few years.

Anyway, it isn't happening yet. Like Lejog, it has been on my mind a few years and I can't remember when I first heard about it, but as soon as I did I wanted to do it. In a few month's time I shall, so long as no calamities happen that prevent global travel between now and then. Given the parlous state of the world at the moment that is by no means guaranteed, but tickets are booked so all being well, I shall be returning to this blog with updates when we get underway, or shortly before :-)
